This is another magic-heavy adventure, which appeals to me just fine. It once again traces Eustace, who is mostly reformed from his fuddy-duddy ways, and a friend named Jill as they do their best to follow a list of instructions given to them by Aslan. Along the way, they befriend a gloomy guide with the excellent name Puddleglum and lots of princes and kings. Notably one who has to be tied to a silver chair so that he won't turn into... some kind of monster.
I've heard food preferences divided into 'carb people' and 'protein people'; Lewis once again shows a strong favor for meats, almost as counterbalance in recent children's literature to Charlie Bucket's chocolate factory. I appreciated the limited warring in this book. Jill is a decent character, but there are too many evil queens in this series, which might have some Biblical history to it, but is still a bit ugh. Nevertheless, the book does have some lovely flourishes of Lewis's creativity, as well as a genuinely moving ending.
