Another book that surprised me it was a book of love and devotion. As well as family and what you would do to help them.

This was a quick and fun read I finished in a few hours. I liked that it wasn’t too deep and just a short story about someone struggling and trying to fight for a better life but unfortunately it’s not a good plan and it doesn’t play out well.

I'm a huge fan of Jocko's books and podcast, so when I saw he wrote a Fiction book, I jumped at the chance to read it. This was quite a simple read, almost like a children's book, with the exception of the content. This is written in a poetic style to begin each chapter, again it's quite simple. However, the simplicity does not detract from the story in the least. The plot is quite fast-paced and once you get a knack for the writing, it's easy to be swept away with the characters. The latter half of the story made it impossible to put down. I couldn't wait to see what would become of Johnny, a man who made a string of bad choices to help benefit those he loved. The outcome truly tugs on one's heartstrings! I hope Jocko continues to write more adult fiction in the future.

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for a fair review.

This is a very quick, easy read. There's no deep thinking, no literary devices or symbolism to ponder, but make no mistake: in certain places, this author does more with one sentence or a phrase repeated three times than whole paragraphs and several pages ever could.

Johnny loves his brother, an autistic boy whose fascination with laundry and he loves his girlfriend. He wants better lives for them both, even at his own expense. I did not agree with some of the choices he made to ensure they had good lives.

I was happy with the ending. Others may feel differently. This just wasn't the book for me. Again, others will think otherwise.

sorry dad. wtf was that
