DNF. I've tried both reading and listening to this book and never made it past the prologue either time. Kudos to anyone who's recommended this to me and made it through. This one just wasn't for me.

At 978 pages, Fall of Giants is a big read, but one that sucks you in instantly. Follet's excellent writing and characterization entices you ever deeper into the chaotic world of the early 20th century. Going from the coal mines of Wales to the cold of St Petersburg, from peaceful Buffolo to the meat grinder of the Somme, from aristocratic nobels to one peasant's involvement in the overthrow of one of Europe's greatest powers, Follet's characters embark on journeys that can only be described as epic, and yet still so very human. These characters, combined with well researched historical information that makes you feel as if you were there living the events, combine to form a fabulous book that I would highly recommend to anyone.

Excellent story with great historical context.  Made the whole time period right before and after  WWI come alive through the characters and the challenges they faced.

Really interesting and informative. One appreciates one's good fortune of place and time of birth when reading such a book.
