lighthearted

Is it easy to read? Yes.
Entertaining enough to keep turning the pages? Sure.
Plot? Practically nonexistent.

The social commentary feels shallow. There are moments when characters seem to have big revelations, only for the next page to reveal they’ve learned absolutely nothing. It’s frustrating and a bit eye-roll inducing. A decent read if you want something light, but not much more to hold on to.

This was beautifully written, engaging and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Georgiana is the worst character, and her little dramatic “eat the rich” storyline is annoying, but not entirely unrealistic for a Brown graduate like she’s supposed to be haha.

This novel was fun, if you liked Crazy Rich Asians this is comparable.

I ended up liking this book, even though I didn’t like the characters for the majority of the book. They did redeem themselves at the end, which was helpful. The Stockton’s were a very insular (some might say creepily so) family, barely tolerating outsiders, especially those who married into their group of five. Sasha tried her best, but as a solidly middle class woman marrying into their group upper crust, she barely had a chance. She finally stands up for herself, which helps promote growth in the family, which is why I ended up liking it.

I really struggled to find the point of this book. Nothing happened and I was bored the entire time.

Barely anything happened. No complexity. No humor. I didn’t feel emotions for any character and they didn’t seem to have complex emotions either. Ugh. So overhyped.
