Was this book good? No, but it was charming. The experience of reading it really reminded me of putting a horror movie on in the background of a party. While you're half paying attention you can forgive the paper thin motivations and the unlikeable characters and just let the atmosphere flow over you. I was really intrigued by the haunted house setting. I wish it had a better story to fill it up.

When I first got this book, I thought it would be a great spooky time read, but I never got around to it and then this month, My husband picked it as a read to try to scare me and it did the opposite.
I really did not like this book unless you know Japanese culture half of the references she makes doesn’t make sense .
Also, the book was just not scary at all and a bit of a bore.

I had to DNF. Between the lack of depth in the characters and slow start, I could not continue.

I am sure it has its place with those who love it and appreciate the writing. It is just not for me.

This author’s voice is brilliant and poetic. I love the writing so much. The plot and characters were completely lacking. Reading this book was like hearing my favorite musical artist sing my least favorite song.
