It is what it is. In this case, a novelization of the first 2 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which is a pretty solid pilot, by the way).

The dialogue is taken directly from the show, so all the wit and Joss Whedon-ess remains intact. The narration, however, is very shallow and awkwardly paced at times (especially in the beginning). Not recommended if you haven't seen the pilot but not entirely recommended if you've seen it either, since you won't really learn any backstory or read the thoughts of the character.

It simply does what the basis of what a novelization is supposed to do: Turn visual storytelling into a passable work of literature.

This is the first book in the original novels from the 90s that went along with the Buffy TV show. This first one is a novelization of the episode with the same name, this is the first episode of the show. I thought it was enjoyable, written really well. I love the tv show so remembered what had happened it was still fun to read though. I'm looking forward to reading the original novels.

This book is the episode "the Harvest" from season one in a novelization.
A group of Vampires are preparing for the Harvest, which is a ritual which will free their Master from his entrapment between dimensions. Buffy has to try and stop the Harvest from happening and there by putting an end to demons taking over the world.
What I really enjoyed about it, is that by reading the story there where little facts in it that I did not get out of the TV episode, such as the Masters Birth name. :0)
I loved replaying the episode in my head as I was reading along. Remembering how young they all where in the first season. :0)

De eerste aflevering van de tv-serie wordt in dit boek navertelt. Alleen leuk voor de fans van de serie en voor jonge lezers.

Buffy's starting all over. New town, new school, new dead kids??
Buffy just wants to be a normal teenager, but at her first day at Sunnydale High the librarian tries to give her a creepy vampyre book and there's a dead guy in a locker! Looks like it's back to slaying, and being an outcast. Trying to make friends and fit doesn't look like it's going to happen. But in the midst of a battle against vampires she ends up making friends anyway. Willow and Xander, and they only think that she is a little strange!!
This is basically a retelling of the first Buffy episode, but still a quick fun read!

3.5 stars. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer show and these books just give me more of the show I love. In particular I love the high school years of the show and these books again give me more of Buffy, Xander, and Willow fun high school years and fight. And the high school years mean you see more of Giles my favorite character. And the favorite part about these books is they expand beyond the shows episodes. And they still give the flavor of the show. But that why The Harvest isn't my favorite because it the first/second episode of season one of the show. And while it was a great book and I loved the story it wasn't what I was hoping for. But still a nice read especially for such a short book and not at all a waste of time despite the repeat of an episode. Also a great read that I read that I read of #UnderHypedReadathon.

It was pretty much the first episode all over again but it didn't have quite the same charm the show has. It was somewhat nostalgic but honestly all i want to do is to rewatch the show again .

It takes about an hour to read this book, which isn't any great feat giving it's a straight up rendition of the show's pilot. It was good, mindless fun. :)

The dialogue is pure Joss. The novelization comes in the description of the actions, some of the backstory and in how the writer describes the characters.
