I originally decided to read this book because I won the companion sequel arc in a giveaway. I'm really glad I did because I loved this book. My favorite character is Fox but I love all these characters even the villain. There were a few twists I didn't see coming and others I wasn't surprised by. I also like that she wrote the title into the story [I don't know why, exactly, I just love that]. This is the first book of hers that I've read but I've heard no one talk about it. One of my favorites so far this year.

My daughter (who is now almost 11) stumbled across this book while browsing the shelves at our local library. She took it home, devoured it, declared it a favorite, and has reread a few times since (and we now own a copy). She even dressed as Quicksilver for Halloween one year.

I wanted to like it more, but I just couldn’t. Overall, it was a good story, but the pace felt uneven to me and I still felt like I wanted a little more to the story at the end. Like we never find out what happened to her parents exactly. And how did Ari never really age?

A whimsical magical middle grade quest/adventure. I rarely read in this age category so I don’t have any recommendations to compare it to. But if you’re looking for something enchanting with Miyazaki vibes and precocious orphans and brave little witches, this is excellent.

Thank you Harper Kids and The Shelf Stuff for the complementary copy.

Content warnings: contains character death including death of animals, fantasy violence/blood

After reading Furyborn I wanted to read everything Legrand wrote. This one was enjoyable but nothing compared to Furyborn. 4🌟 because it was enjoyable.

Such a cute middle grade. I loved the MC and her struggles. Quality writing, whimsical story but it had a lot of important undertones that dealt with important issues. Love love love <3
