Great story, terrible relationship
Imagine asking someone to find out whats wrong with your magically infested house just to block them from your lives when they tell you what the problem was. Make it make sense.

This was a nice little prequel novella to this series.  I was excited to get a glimpse into the lives of characters I have come to love in the other two books.  To my disappointment, I only got Rhys and Moira.  David was in here, but no POV, and he was only there for Moira and Rhys to argue with to progress the story.  I found both Moira and Rhys to be kind of unlikeable.  I am very happy I read this after reading the other two books first.  I still liked this story and that it had a "haunted" house, and I definitely loved the character art.

This was a very quick, easy read. I was excited to get more of the back story on Moira and Rhys.

This was about how the couple felt their house was haunted by something. A demon? A ghost? Items are getting moved around, lights flicker, etc. They turn to David to ask for help in figuring out what it is and how to get rid of it. We see what marriage was like for Moira and Rhys while they were newlyweds, getting accustomed to each other's preferences, feelings, powers, magic. I liked that because it's very relatable.

I definitely liked Moira a lot less in this book. She just didn't come across as a nice person or spouse, really. A few times I asked myself, 'Why does Rhys tolerate this?'

The illustrations were beautiful. I honestly wish there were more.

But overall, I didn't feel like I gained anything by reading this. I personally don't think it added anything necessary to Evocation. I was just very unimpressed.

Rating: 4 stars

This novella masterfully weaves an overarching theme about the significance of communication in relationships, showing how its absence fosters distance and resentment between individuals. I found it to be an enjoyable mix of charm and subtle eeriness, making it an ideal choice for my September reads. While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I find it challenging to award novellas a full 5-star rating. However, this work successfully heightened my anticipation for Evocation. Overall, I found this novella to be a delightful read and would certainly recommend it.
