Lovely shortstory, added some more to the charachters I already love. I especially loved the moment when they first met. So sweet. <3

I loved it. Bought this book, went to a cafe, read it, and then sat trying to figure out what to do next.

For a novella this short, I felt it really packed a punch. The way S.T.Gibson had me falling for this couple and caring so deeply about them is mad. The plot is pretty low stakes. Really, this is following the characters' marriage, switching between past and how they met, to present, and the struggles they're having. The beautiful imagery and writing were the perfect way to tell this story that tugged on my heart strings.

I decided to pause reading Evocation for a moment when I saw that the author recommends reading this short novel first, and I have to say I don't regret it at all. It's a beautiful story, with an evocative writing style and human characters. My ultimate favorite is Rhys, for his insecurities, his complex mind, along with some autistic traits I identified.

Odd Spirits is a novella to dive into before Evocation!

You don’t have to read it, but I would recommend to see the relationship between Moira and Rhys a bit better and to understand their relationship with David a little bit more.

In Odd Spirits we see Moira and Rhys getting to know each other and trying to rid their house of an entity that is causing mayhem. The miscommunication trope is not one of my faves, which is what this novella focuses on. The miscommunication inside their marriage, but the more I sit on it, this novella is so real in terms of how relationships actually work and how much time, effort, trust, and honesty has to be put in it to really make things work.

S.T. Gibson is one of my favorite writers and for good reason. The way she writes about relationships is just 🤌🏽. She doesn’t cookie cutter them. She doesn’t add crazy outlandish shit to them. They are real and raw and emotional.

I have very mixed feeling on this. I liked seeing Rhys and Moira dealing with their relationship as a somewhat newly married couple. However, I also found them annoying and their issues somewhat stupid in a way. A part of me thought that this was the right length of the book as I don't know if I could handle the lack of communication between the two of them for a full length novel but at the same time maybe if it was longer we would have got more depth to it because I do find it hard to get invested when a story is so short. I just am unsure on how I felt but I will pick up the official book 1 in the series as I do like the writing style and feel there is potential with this series.
