Spolier read at your own risk:
When a book makes you want to shed a tear at the end you know it was well written because it touched your soul. I love this duology. I see myself in Alyce and hope to find my Aurora (maybe I've already met her) but two people who love eachother as they are, well, there are no obstacles that they cannot beat together. I was a bit sad when it seemed there wasn't going to be the ending I hoped for. But after some reflection I think I get it. Sometimes you need to find yourself and live a life without someone you love to truly appreciate what you have with them. I'm sure most know that feeling of anxiety and knots in your stomach when you can't be around someone you truly care for. This book did it to me. I hope we get a follow up on what happens. Does Alyce go back to Briar Court? What happens? I hope Heather isn't done with Alyce. I know i certainly am not finished.

The middle was a little long and messy, but in the same way the first one was just setting up dominoes and watching them fall in such a nice way, this one scratched that same itch really nicely.
None of the politics were too complicated, the magic system was perfect for me as someone who doesn’t read a ton of fantasy, this was just a really, really good book.
And I’m into this ending, I can see people who might not be into it but this worked for me, I love this story. I love how messy these two were, how messy it all was with Regan and Neve and Derek, I loved it.

Stopped at ch. 30
I tried pushing through since I enjoyed the first book so much, but I wasn't invested in this sequel. It was fun seeing new characters and all, but I only really cared for Reagan (I listened to the audiobook so might spell the names wrong btw). I kinda wished Alyce would get with her since she understood Alyce much better than Aurora (especially keeping in mind Alyce and Aurora knew eachother for like 1 year before the curse, and Reagan has now known Alyce for 100+ years).
I would have thought Alyce would have evolved (at all) in the past century, but she didn't really get past her more childish ways of thinking/acting, which was unfortunate.
I don't really like Aurora either, more in this book than the last. The audacity it takes to be away from a kindgom for a century (curse, but still counts) and yet having the audacity to expect people to immediately bow down to her as queen was insane to me. She was just so self-centered and never listened to why Alyce did what she did (ok I will admit it was a bit much at times, but she did follow the example of the last ruler/other human rulers in the more gruesome practices so you can't be mad at her and not the other, you know?). She did have genuine reasons to do most things tho, for helping others of her kind (and other kinds that allied with her).

I adore the character of Alice and how genuinely innocent and kind she is under her dark persona. Is it monstrous to wish and fight for equality and a safe space for those who are different? The imps are perfect and I love the representations of the demons and goblins. Appearances can be greatly deceiving.

Book one left me wanting the rest immediately. This did not disappoint.
I don’t care if it’s a YA book. I just want the villain stories… and make it a lesbian villain? GAH. I want one of each villain. Right now.
