Let’s say 3.5.

Absolutely love this duology, didn't quite know where it would end, and thoroughly hooked all the way through

I think the reason I enjoyed the first book sò much was seeing the love blossom between the impossible. A dark grace and a princess falling in love against all odds was so beautiful to read.

This book focuses alot less on the actual romance of their relationship, but shows many other important themes. Going mad with power, revenge, justice, moral compasses, and at first I wasn't enjoying it as much as I wished that there was more of the relationship I loved so much in book 1. But I completely changed my mind when I realised that, with all the problems and wars that Alyce was sorting, her love wasn't the most important battle. I then lover reading about all the creatures, her internal battles and the plotting she did. I fell in love with the other members of the court.

This book is so beautiful, on the surface it may just be a lesbian retelling of sleeping beauty, but it truly is so much more. The imagery in this book is wonderful and I cant wait to read more from Heather.

I loved the politics in this, again, the romance was sub-plot but it just made it all the more exciting. It was an emotional rollercoaster that I enjoyed every second of. I love Alyce! I miss her already.

Exactly what it needed to be.

like i mentioned in my previous review regarding Malice, this duology is tailor-made to tug at the heartstrings of us misfits, and in particular, members of the lgbtqiaa+ community. i finished the first book in an all nighter and just barely recovered from its events in a month when i begun (and finished in the same day) Misrule. i wasn’t able to pick up any book for a while after reading them.
