Disjointed, scattered, and frustrating would best describe this book. The ending was good which really helped to save the book for me. I really struggled to get into it because Alyce’s decisions felt erratic and aimless. I wanted so much more out of this book. The setup was all there. When Alyce and Aurora would fight, it felt like there was no coming back from it. Then when things were good it felt awkward and undeserved.

Based on the Acknowledgment in the back of the book, it sounds like the author struggled to find Alyce’s voice. I do think I see that for about 75% of the book. The last 25% is better but still reads a bit disjointed. Things tied up a bit too nicely and I would have enjoyed being able to piece some of the parts together. What really helped was when Alyce left in the end to find herself and fulfill her deep rooted desire to travel and see the world.

The first book got me so good and this one really had all the potential to be great. I felt like when the author finally hit her stride with the characters and the story, it was pretty much the end and wrapping fast. I wish it had been a better experience. Unfortunately, this fell into the second book slump.

I loved this duology. Sleeping Beauty is a favorite so a queer retelling of the tale was always going to be intriguing. The writing was good though I felt it started to get repetitive as the book went on. Could’ve been a little shorter in that sense just to keep things tighter, but I ended up loving the slow pace. The yearning between Alice and Aurora was out of this world. Not a true enemies to lovers but there were aspects of that trope that seeped in and I ate it up. But the romance here was epic. And at the end of the day, there’s little I love more than true love!

This isnt the ending i was hoping for but the rest of the story was great. Loved how Alyce was constant fighting mortiana in het head, it was a good way of showing Alyce her character.
I really wanted for Alyce and Aurora to end up together, it just doesnt sit right with me. But that is perhaps because you only read in Alyce pov and not in the pov of Aurora, Maybe then i could understand the reason more
