2.5 stars rounded up since it wasn’t the worst. I don’t know how to start this review, I’m just disappointed. :( After the cliffhanger Malice left I was so eager and excited to immediately start the sequel. However, a couple chapters in and I realized this was not the book I hoped for. Like others have said I think this should have 100% been a standalone and Malice could have just been a bit longer to fully wrap up the story.

Let me start with what I liked:
1. I was actually quite fond of the new cast of characters that came from the Dark Court. Sometimes having so many new characters in a sequel is a bit off putting, and I will admit that at times it was hard to fully keep up with all of them. But overall I thought they were distinct and had purpose to the world of this story. I even liked Derek though I felt his quick alliance with the dark court was a bit too easy given the way they treated him.

A frustrating end to a duology that promised a fairy tale and didn’t deliver. I feel like I got dragged along forever on a journey that moved at a snails pace, only to end abruptly with no reward.

This book had such potential, it starts 100 years after the first one and so much happened in that time. We should have gotten more of the other creatures coming to Alyce and the wars and the other courts but instead we got angst and so much miscommunication between the main character and her love interest  almost DNF’d the book a few times. If all we got were 2 idiots not listening to each other and thinking that they know better than the other then it should have been shorter. I will never read anything by this author again and for good measure I’m unfollowing her on social media.
