I like what this book wanted to do. However it seemed to oversimplify the motif of "hatred" and the concept of "vengeance".

Omg this story was absolutely amazing. The ease at which the author was able to combine history with dark magic was mind blowing. I loved the diverse personalities of the main characters. The author definitely showed readers the research that was put into creating this story. He gave authentic voices to his characters writing their dialogues in Gullah Geeche as well as southern dialect. The historical references in the story were also spot on.

Quick read. Horror-ish. Unique take on the KKK - I really enjoyed the writing style and the story. This one will stick with me for a while.

I liked the overall plot of white supremacist's being literal monsters from hell. I do think that this kind of fiction can take away from the real life cruelty and hate that racists are capable of but this was handled well and made them racist people being taken over by like demons who want to overtake the world. 

I was a little confused by the reason the MC was the chosen one, but I listen to books at work so I could have just been less attentive than I should have been.
