This fantasy has hooked me! A Ruinous Fate follows Callie rosewood, a witch with siphon abilities and bad luck. This causes her to constantly be on the run with her friends. But after trusting the wrong person, she is forced into fate's plan once again and goes on a quest to free herself from destiny's grasp.

I thought the magic system in particular is what made this such a good read. The idea that a roll of the dice could change your fate is one I found interesting and captivating. I loved Calla as a character and really enjoyed seeing this story through her perspective.

However, while I gave this book 4 stars, there were still a lot of things I wish had been done differently. First, I wish we had a little more world-building. I felt as though I was playing catch-up this whole book cause I didn't understand the world, the different species, and how they all fit together. I also wish the author had chosen to create fewer subplots, cause I felt slightly overwhelmed keeping track of Calla, Ezra, Hannah, Delphine, Gideon, Caspian, and Kestral's life stories.

Despite those two things, I had a lot of fun buddy reading this and will definitely be picking up the next one!

loved the characters and thought the dynamic of everything was enjoyable. the story was engaging and never dull. the usage of the term ā€œwhat the hellsā€ forever irked me. also didn’t like the ending that much - unsatisfying cliffhanger, like when they leave off in the middle of a story. i also despise love triangles

While this wasn’t the most amazing book I’ve ever read it was fun and quick going. It also SEVERELY suffered from the narration in the audio :(

I think this would be a 5 star read if I’d have read a physical copy but I got the characters a little mixed up for a little while so šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
But wow!! Fae worlds aren’t my thing but because we were following witches and sirens I think I let it go. That was so much fun. Also who doesn’t love a love triangle with a man and his hot older brother lolololĀ
Very rude to leave me on that cliff hanger I need more and I don’t want to wait til January.Ā
