Definitely not my favorite arc. It dragged on way too long, the Dead Moon villains weren’t really intimidating and I found the whole Pegasus thing to be rushed and boring.
I was interested in seeing more of the Sailor Scouts going over their motivations. We see more of Ami’s family and the triad of the outer planet scouts raising Hotaru who aged faster than Renesmee.
Again, why have Chibiusa in love with with her father? Was it necessary?

This volume is exactly what I needed. All of the sailor shenshi back together and Chibiusa finally realizing that she needs to move on from this gross crush on her future father. Also, human Artemis :)

The Sailor Scouts have a new enemy who has put a spell over the entire Jûban district of Tokyo, and is setting loose little concentrated spheres of evil - lemures - to turn all the beautiful dreams into nightmares. This new enemy is headed by Queen Nehellenia, the queen of the New Moon, of the dark side of the moon. She has found a way in through all the protections on Earth, and is attacking it from the inside. The Dead Moon Circus is her front to besiege the people of Jûban, and her efforts are affecting Mamoru-san. To complicate things even more, the scouts find they can’t transform in the face of this new enemy, but instead have to gain a new power up.
This volume begins to reflect the readership of the series getting older. The Dead Moon Circus arc has some darker elements and scarier bits, particularly anyone with a phobia for clowns. There is still the same appeal of the overall series, but Takeuchi is getting more complex with her storylines. Villains still want to take over the Silver Millennium, they still want the Crystal, and they still dispatch one henchman at a time to take out the Scouts. But, Usagi is much less of a crybaby than when this series started, and her friends all have deeper goals and aspirations. The Dead Moon feeds off of beautiful dreams, so this arc includes much more attention to the futures these ladies might all have, which includes setting more goals for themselves and working towards them.
