Certainly wasn't the best work I've ever read, but it certainly reached interesting highs at times, especially in the artwork. And the cyclical nature was pretty cool.

Settling at a rating in between my feelings about this one.

Art style - I absolutely loved the world in this one. It was creepy and at time horrifying, while still be beautiful. I loved the use of color (and a lot of it) in some panels - It doesn't take away from the total vibe at all.

Story - As someone who admired but disliked reading Journey to the Center of the Earth, this story was a nice change of pace while still sticking to some core points. Unfortunately, most of the story fell flat or had gaps that were not something I could easily overlook. The whole end of this was disappointing. Her and the Satanian... really?

I decided to give Fabien Vehlmann another try. Beautiful Darkness was okay. Gorgeous illustrations. Interesting juxtaposition of fairytale like beings with blood and gore. Thin characters and very thin plot, though. Satania's characters were even more underdeveloped and the plot just as vague. I found the illustrations to be interesting, but a bit repetitive. Beautiful Darkness was much prettier in my opinion.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to take away from Satania. I feel like there should be some sort of meaning, but it was never developed enough to get a firm grasp on it. I've read graphic novels and short stories that manage, in even fewer words, to say much more.

An underground expedition discovers a "hell" populated by subhuman "Satanians." There are some neat set pieces, definitely some Journey to the Centre of the Earth vibes. Worth mentioning, the female lead spends at least half of the book topless, because reasons.

The only way to describe this book is "beautiful". The story has a very parable/myth feel to it, a sort of "journey to the center of the earth"meets"Dante's inferno" but georgious to look at! Very epic very spraling!
