3.5 stars, it was a delightful read but at times a little too quirky for me. I loved Lenni, she's so funny. The concept was great however my main issue was with the execution and it just felt a little sloppy. I would have liked to have know more about Lenni's 17 years of life although shorter than Margots, I feel teenagers have a lot more fresh memories.

I also felt a little let down that we only really got a whistle stop tour of th 100 years of Lenni and Margot when the books title is literally the 100 years and the project was to paint 100 paintings one from each year of their lives when we only really got quick snapshots - just felt cheated is all, maybe it could have been called Art Therapy Class with Lenni and Margot. I don't mean it in any kind of negative way and hate beng negative about someones hard work but its just a critique and I am a firm believer that we can learn a lot from both the good and the bad.

17-year-old Lenni is bright, inquisitive, and has an interesting way of looking at the world. She wants to enjoy every minute of life, because she knows her days are numbered – she resides at a hospital in Glasgow, on the ward for terminally ill youth. A chance encounter leads her to forming a friendship with 83-year-old Margot, another patient in the hospital. The book is told in a series of short vignettes, taking place both in the hospital and in scenes from Lenni and Margot’s lives, each representing one of the hundred years they have been alive. It’s a story about Margot’s life, and Lenni’s life - and most of all, it’s a book about love in all its many forms.

The writing is just gorgeous, and the characters are vivid and loveable. The best, most beautifully crafted part of the book is the relationships between characters – between Lenni and Margot, Lenni and Father Arthur, Lenni and the nurses, Lenni and her father, and in flashback, between Margot and her many lost loves. I love an “unexpected friendship” story, almost as much as I love a “found family” story, and this book has plenty of both. It’s one of those books that manages to be both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. This story is beautiful, and absolutely worth a read.

I received an ARC of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the best book I’ve read in a long time. It’s sweet and heartwarming but will also make you cry quite a bit. I listed to it on audiobook and the narrators were perfect.

LOVED LOVED LOVED this beautiful story. At first I was apprehensive to read it. We had just come out a very sad time for our family with the loss of my brother-in-law's mom and I wasn't sure I could handle anything sad. I'm so glad I read this. I loved the friendship, the family that was created inside the hospital, the stories of their lives, the sweetness in the love of both friends and family, husband, child, everything. I loved everything.
