I've read every book Ruth has written numerous times and was excited to find a new release. I was not a fan of this book and struggled to finish. It took me over week to read this book when typically I finish in hours. Unsure if I'll read the next in the series.

This is the first book in a new series with a big start of setting the bar quite high.

Mistaken or fake identity is always something that I’m looking forward to read in romance stories. And this one touched quite a few topics while at it. I loved the instant lust and falling into love between them. The banter and chemistry were there at all times, and the steamy scenes set fire to those initial sparks.

Their dialogues about families and past and regrets tugged at my heart, but I loved how it made them so much lovable and beautiful souls.

Crystal and Jesse might have started that relationship with a fake step, but they worked through it all with building trust and love in the end.

A must-read new story from an author that everyone should try.

-Switched character series. 1 of 2
-Jesse was adopted as a baby. He happens to run across a person in the newspaper that looked exactly like him. Jesse knew he was adopted, so he had a DNA test done that confirmed him and Scott were twins. Scott has an oil company coming after his farm and Jesse offers to switch with him to help. Jesse wasn’t expecting to be there more than a few hours. Those few hours turned into a few days. Crystal is a successful chemist and her uncle wanted her to go meet Scott and give him the proposal. What she didn’t expect is for her instant attraction to Scott (Jesse). Jesse is instantly attracted to her as well. Which makes it hard to keep the secret that he isn’t Scott. Jesse ends up telling Crystal who he really is, and he finds out more of what Scott is keeping secret at his farm. Crystal and Jesse get close, and events happen that allow Jesse and Crystal to be together. As well as find a way they can all help Scott.
-This was a faster paced book. I listened to it as an audio and had to restart it because my brain couldn’t keep up. It was like I was reading two different stories in one book. But overall, I did like the concept.
-Rating: 7/10 Spice: 2/5

This take on the classic Princess and the Pauper was very well done. Jesse was hard to like at first, but I liked how Crystal helped to soften him some. Additionally, I loved how Jesse incorporated Scott into his family and the lengths he went to to protect him. The book flowed very well and the relationships were well written. I also enjoyed the different layers in the story that strayed from the romance storyline. My favorite was discovering more about Scott's experiments. I think it added more depth and intrigue.

Overall, I liked this book. It was a little different from what I'm used to, but I have found another author whose books I enjoy! I would recommend this book for someone who likes instalove, hidden identity, and an alpha hero.

Jesse is convinced that the oil company trying to buy his brother’s farm is trying to perpetrate a ruthless swindle. And he’s the hard-nosed businessman, not his soft-hearted twin brother. So he takes his brother’s place for the negotiations.
The negotiator sent by the oil company doesn’t seem ruthless at all. Crystal’s beautiful, but seems unware of the impact her looks have on others. She’s capable, but not the calm, tough as nails person he expected her employer to bring to the fight.
He’s clueless about what it takes to run a rescue farm, or why the oil company is so keen to buy the property. And his twin is being extremely cagey about what he’s actually working on. When he discovers that the Crystal owns a hot shot lab, is actually a genius, and cannot be allowed anywhere near whatever it is that his twin is working on, he is even more intrigued and frustrated.
He just happens to be intrigued and frustrated by the gorgeous woman who’s supposed to be his enemy. After an unforgettable night, he can’t stop thinking about her. But their whole relationship is based on his deception.
This was a steamy, insta-love, enemies-to-lovers story with just the right dash of industrial espionage and scheming.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
