Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Gallery Books, via Netgalley.

My Thoughts: I didn’t really have any expectations for Clipped Wings. It interested me because it seemed to focus on tattooing and I’d never really read anything like that. I’ve been slightly curious about that entire world. I’m more of the clean-cut, goody-goody, so reading about essentially the opposite is intriguing.

The story of Clipped Wings would definitely be considered outside of what I normally read. I don’t normally do well reading about damaged people who make absolutely no effort to live beyond being that damaged person. I get annoyed very quickly and it usually takes me forever to get through the book, if I don’t get bored and set it down for months at a time. There was a lot about tattooing, which was pretty interesting. It seemed accurate to me (my only comparison is a very small tattoo on my inner wrist). I did like that the author told you more about the tattoo process, outside of the results (a nice piece of art).

Tenley was kind of irritating. She just had so many issues and seemed to think the head in the sand tactic was the way to go. I also really didn’t understand her weird mood swings. One minute she’s a damaged girl who won’t ever heal and the next being with Hayden is the only way to heal herself (wait, what? Being with a man is the only thing that will heal you? Those are some seriously messed up dependency issues). I loved Hayden. He also had a boatload of issues, but was less irritating with how he dealt with them or ignored them. Between the two of them and all of their issues they actually made sense as a couple.

I don’t think I would recommend Clipped Wings. If you’re into dark romance with damaged characters, then I would highly recommend Clipped Wings, but that’s not generally a super popular reading genre (at least among the people I know). I feel like it’s also necessary to point out that Clipped Wings has sexually explicit scenes, so it should probably only be considered if you’re 18+. I personally am not planning to read the next book in this series. I made up a happy ending in my head and am more than satisfied with that. I just don’t have the patience to go through any more of this story.

Picked this up for $.99 today, thought I'd check it out and see how it compared to the original Fic.

The story is entirely different. Better in some ways and sadly unrecognizable in others. Regardless of the changes, good read.

Loved, loved, loved, this book!!!!!!! After reading the prequel (Cupcakes and Ink), I could not wait to read this book! I needed more of Hayden! And there was definitely more Hayden!!!

In Cupcakes and Ink, you get a little taste of Tenley and Hayden, it left you wondering what are Tenley and Hayden’s secrets? What has happened to them? Both of them are attracted to each other, but are not really sure if they should take their attraction to the next level. Hayden, has the chance to be happy, but something (or someone) from his past, is determined to not let him be happy. He wants to be honest with Tenley about his past, but he doesn’t want to scare her off. But Tenley, is having the same problem. She moved out to a new town to start college, and have a fresh start. She can’t since her past is now in her face.

OH THIS BOOK! It ripped my heart out and made me want to eat all the cupcakes at the same time. There were so many cupcakes in this book that I could almost taste them. I really liked this romance and it was a great one to start my 2021 reading journey.

This book was recommended to me by my favorite bookish girls and they never steer me wrong and this time was no exception. Even though I had some problems with the plot and some characters it was a very consumable read and I devoured it in a matter of hours.

The characters were likeable and entertaining, but I found some of them not really believable or a little annoying at times. Tenley truly stumped me. First she started as this timid beauty that couldn’t even form a proper sentence around Hayden and then all of the sudden she was this sex kitten demanding everything under the sun from him. That kind of annoyed me and I wish the author had made her a little more consistent. Then she was keeping all these secrets from everyone. I mean I can’t even imagine what she went through, but I just honestly wanted to shake and yell at her to tell Hayden the truth because he didn’t really deserve all that confusion. It sometimes also seemed like she cared more about her tattoo than him at times even though I know that author didn’t mean that way.

Hayden was an interesting character to me and I thought he was as sexy as sin. If he was a storm, he definitely was a Hurricane Katrina! WOOOOOOH! Hubba Hubba! His point of view was extremely intriguing and I devoured his chapters like the kid devouring chocolate cake in Matilda. However, he was also a little confusing as well. In the beginning of the book, he was a completely different character! He started as a sweet, but caring boy that liked a girl next store, then all of the sudden he was a bad boy with a tragic past. I was just so confused!

The plot was meh at best and very standard for a romance novel, but of course I couldn't put the book down no matter how normal it was. The ending was also a cliffhanger that ripped my insides out and forced me to buy the next one so I can devour that one too. I can’t wait to find out if these love birds will make it or not.

Overall, the book was a steamy read that I couldn’t stop reading even though it had just a few issues. If you are looking for a tragic romance with fun piercing and tats, make sure to pick up this read.

A bit too much on the sex front, it made the story drag for a while in my opinion.

This book was fantastic! Hayden and Tenley are just so messed up and broken and I loved watching them come together as the details of their past came to light. The pain of both their pasts was very emotional to read. Nothing was ever as I expected and it made it all that more appealing and intriguing. All the layers in this story and and the feelings it elicited from me was off the charts.

Tensely and Hayden have this unexplainable connection and chemistry. I adored the build up of their relationship. Watching them come out of their shells. I think they are extremely well written characters with lots of depth. I really enjoyed their playful moments and their heartfelt ones as well. There was a lot of build up and anticipation to the sexy times… them together was just WOW. They frustrated me sometimes because of their protective layers, other times my heart broke for them. They are just sweet and genuine characters.

There were plenty of other characters to keep it interesting, I enjoyed them all. I wasn’t a fan of those that were the villains but I thought they were great characters. I pretty much yelled at my Kindle any time Sienna or Trey was involved. They made me so tense!

This story is told from both Tenley and Hayden’s POVs. I thought this book was descriptive and had great imagery. There was a nice pace throughout and I was on the edge of my seat the majority of the time. As more of their stories unfolded, I was captivated. The end is a cliffhanger that will lead into the next story, it was not abrupt. I am really looking forward to the next story, Inked Armor.

I was filled with tension and anxiety while reading. I couldn't read fast enough, wanting all the details. I felt consumed by this story. I don't know if I can articulate how wonderful I thought this was. The depth it had, all of it. Just amazing. 5 stars.
