So the first thing I have to say is that this book was clearly not written for me as an audience. Therefore, it's kind of hard for me to give it a unbiased review, but I will do what I can from my own perspective.
I absolutely love the movie, and the narrator sounds exactly like Alec Baldwin, I actually had to go and check and make sure it was not him doing the narration.
I also have to say that he was also probably one of the best narrators I've ever heard, and really managed to put excitement, tension, and intensity into the reading, even when he was talking about boring technical stuff.
I think about half of this book could've been edited out and it still would've been a perfectly cohesive story, I actually spaced out for many minutes at a time without missing a single beat or losing my place while listening. While there are several main characters that I remember from the movie, I think if I had not watched the movie it would have been far more difficult to follow, as there are about 500 side characters whose stories are gone into in great depth, and who we never hear from again.
Basically throw away characters, but so much time is spent on giving their backgrounds and perspectives that it kind of all turns into a big confusing mess.
Also the constant technical jargon, which I zoned out from most of, is probably really interesting for somebody who has an interest in naval engineering and physics, but I do not.
They also find it kind of weird that the American submarine is not allowed to fire back at the Russian submarine when the Russian submarine is literally shooting at the American one within 40 miles of the American coast line.
I don't understand.
So the Americans are just supposed to let them sink our submarines without returning fire, even though the Russians are trespassing and very clearly in our waters?
I also find that they use the word "comrade" like 10,000 times in this book.
Comrade General comrade captain comrade admiral comrade comrade comrade comrade.
Seriously if you took a shot for every single time they use that, you would be dead within three pages. It got super irritating for me personally.
But I could see how somebody would enjoy a book of this type, it just wasn't for me. But the movie is still one of my absolute favorite of all time.

Been too long. Maybe another time
Tom Clancy creates an engaging story. I think he does especially well at painting pictures of men and their accomplishments. Overall I feel like his style is a little sparse on emotion but does every other aspect nicely.

It’s a large submarine Manuel with a good story hidden between too much information.
