Me encantó.

I first saw The Hunt for Red October on the PBS Great American Reads list, then I couldn't get away from it because Amazon is busily promoting some movie or TV show or something based on the book. So, I caved and figured I'd read the book when Amazon put it on promo.
It was a decent book, though not anywhere near as good as I think it's been hyped to be. However, at least part of that assessment likely stems from the fact that The Hunt for Red October was first published in 1984, is set during the Cold War, and there is very little - if anything - that speaks to anything other than an old, cold warrior's soul. This was just not the book for me. If someone asks me for navy/military fiction, I'm more likely to recommend H. Paul Honsinger's The Man of War series or Jay Allen's Blood on the Stars series than The Hunt for Red October/the Jack Ryan series. It's just not my cup of tea.

First book since the 'a song of ice and fire' series to genuinely interest me. I read it twice as fast as my usual pace, and that's all that needs to be mentioned
An exciting story, with a few unattended loose ends. It felt laboured in parts but I still wanted to know what happened

OMG! Finally finished!!! I have no interest in ever going underwater in a submarine, and that is further exacerbated by this book. Got to love Jack Ryan!!! Pressure under Fire!
I love that this book was written the year I was born, and filled with so much military detail despite Clancy’s non-military career. I also love that this plot is based on true examples of Soviet subs defecting to other countries. I need to learn more about life during the Cold War. I can’t even imagine the life in the Soviet Union Clancy describes.

Another of the sad string (lately) of books I am not going to finish.
I picked this up at the library because I watched the movie and loved it (actually because I watched the movie twice within a week). And then the prose and storytelling were both clunky.
I don't think I've ever said this before, so make the most of it: Just watch the movie.
(I don't know, maybe it gets better. But if it doesn't, I wasn't going to make it through.)

Well, I honestly think I liked the movie better. I think I'll go back to reading cookbooks.
