It was alright. They kept having the same problems over and over and it got a little repetitive

First half was 5⭐️ but the second half was more like 4⭐️ so rating right in the middle. Overall I really enjoyed! Fans of famous person/normal person romances will love this one!

entertaining, but did drag a tiny bit in certain parts. liked the relationship build up, and the characters, but some of the jokes/sayings were a bit odd

The wonderful thing about the Romance genre is also frustrating about the Romance genre. There are so many books available! The longer you’re a romance reader, the more favorite authors you collect as your go-to reads. Going outside of that box can be a crap shoot. Let’s face it, we’ve all read some stinkers. That’s the fabulous thing about podcasts that focus on romance. Podcasts that I know I can trust the hosts. I’m not saying that everything recommended is going to be a winner. But when you listen to them discuss books you get an idea of if you’re going to like what they like. All of this rambling on to say that there are a lot of authors I wouldn’t have necessarily tried if not for listening to the Fated Mates podcast. Not because I wouldn’t find the books interesting, but because they just weren’t on my radar. This is one such book. It is so good. Now, it’s not actually the book that is discussed by the podcast, that would be the second book in this series. But I’m a purist and just cannot read book #2 in a series if I haven’t read book #1, so here we are.

Killian doesn’t start off on the right foot, with Libby or with the reader. He seems smug, entitled, and idiotic. Although he does something very idiotic, it’s soon evident that that’s not who he is at all. Killian is hurting and makes some bad decisions, but for most of his life, he’s been the rock. The one keeping everyone in his band organized and in line. He’s also very tender and thoughtful to those he cares about. That’s who Libby falls in love with.

The first part of this book has a gentleness about it; Libby and Killian are almost in a world of their own. With nobody else around intruding on their little sphere of existence, they form a bond that is both strong and yet vulnerable. Of course, their seclusion cannot last forever. Especially since Killian has responsibilities to other people.

Once Killian has to get back to reality, he and Libby have to fight to find a way of being together that works for them both. As much as they both love music, and Killian thrives off performing, it’s obvious they need their downtime, too. That’s not something easy to come by for a world-famous rock star. Watching them try to find their way while also being so careful about not holding the other back is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

Besides the amazing love story in this book, there is also the story of Killian and his band. His brothers, if you will. They’ve been through a tragedy together and have to find a way to stitch themselves back up in a way that is different from before. I am looking forward to seeing more of them all and seeing some more HEAs.

A solid rockstar romance, setting up a suite of endearing characters.

I don't hate drama that comes from
people trying to do the right thing by someone else. Even if in principle I think we should never deny other people agency, in life and in art I can understand trying to do what you think is best for another person.

Libby (unfortunately named Liberty Bell by her parents) finds an unexpected "surprise" on her front lawn: a godlike hunk of a man, sprawled out and drunk out of his mind. When she manages to get him somewhat conscious, he proceeds to throw up all over her. Who wouldn't be charmed by such creature? She literally hoses him up, brings him inside, dumps him on her bed and leaves him aspirin and a hangover cure concoction to drink on her bedside table. When he wakes up, like any stray creatures that are taken care of, he just won't leave. Add to the fact that he is her new neighbor, Killian James, frontman of the biggest rock band on the planet, hiding from the trauma of finding his best friend on the brink of death after a failed suicide attempt.
Throw some forced proximity, a shared interest in music and an undeniable attraction, they soon get together. But Killian is still a rock star, Libby suffers from the worst case of stage fright known to man... will there be a possible future together?
I really thought that I would love this book. It has one of my favorite tropes, the rockstar. The meet cute is hilarious and unique and I love the author. So, I am having a hard time figuring out why I thought this was just meh for me. I suspect it was because I opted for the audiobook. Mind you, the narration is not bad. These are new narrators for me and they do an ok job, but it felt like it was 25 days long. I kept doing other stuff and coming back because I was interested in the story, but I was having a "get on with it already!!!" feeling all the time. Maybe it was me, because it is NOT a bad book, I just had a hard time getting through it. I also wish that some plot points were more developed:  Killian's famous parents are mentioned a few times and it seemed like there was going to be something there, but no. Also, we have people dealing with the aftermath of an attempted suicide and I felt it didn't get the attention it deserved.
I also started book#2 immediately and I am loving it! So, take this review with a grain of salt.
Possible triggers: drunk driving, death of parents, attempted suicide of a close friend
