When Daniel Gingerich, and 18-year-old Amish guy is killed in a barn fire, Chief Kate Burkholder thinks it may be a dreadful accident, but when evidence turns up that Gingerich was lured to the barn and locked in before the fire was deliberately started, Kate knows she is looking for a murderer. The Amish community don't seem to want to help and she finds herself against a stonewall of silence but Kate knows there's something that's not being said, something that led to murder.

Another solid instalment of this mystery series. The investigation did seem to meander a bit at times, and Kate Burkholder was a bit slow to put some aspects together, but it was still an above average read. There were some nice moments between Kate and Tomasetti as they seem to settling down to domestic bliss, even acquiring some chickens for their barn. For those who are triggered by such scenes, there are a couple of quite detailed mentions of sexual assault, so do be warned.
