This is the first book I have read in the Kate Burkholder series and definately will not be my last. I found this book intriguing and very interesting. Kept me saying just one more chapter... so lucky to have been a early reader.

In my opinion, this is the best Kate Burkholder book to date! I had trouble putting this one down and couldn't figure out who had committed a slew of crimes in Painters Mill until the end of the book. I hope there are more in the series in the future!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

An eighteen year old Amish boy is lured to his barn’s tack room for sex. He’s barricaded in the room and then the barn is torched. Kate knows from the beginning it’s murder and arson. She quickly uncovers that the all American Amish boy was a sexual predator- a rapist. As a victim of rape who murdered her rapist and kept that secret she’s wondering if he got what he deserved. But she took an oath and continues to aggressively pursue the case. She’s ambushed. People she interviewed turn up dead. Another attempt on her life. Many in the Amish community don’t want the truth and don’t want others to hear of their pain. Quite an ending.

Another book down for the count in this #FluReadathon2020. (I don’t have TV so may as well entertain myself in the best way possible, right?)

I really should make that an actual Instagram hashtag...

Anyway. Another excellent installment in the Kate Burkholder series. I love how Castillo so graciously lets us see Kate’s humanity while dealing with sensitive topics in a gentle, thoughtful, and kind manner. I can’t think of anything to dislike about this book, honestly... and seeing Kate wrestle with her demons and despair over Justice being meted out for the case in this book made me love her even more, because I get it on a personal level.

Definitely intend to keep reading this series. So much love for it!

Another good one by this author! I’m always worried that the stories in this series will be the same but then am pleasantly surprised each time when they are not. This book seemed different than her others ... I’d say darker in a way but it may just be my perception. A good plot and a good conclusion!

I honestly loved this book. It was my first by Castillo, so I wasn’t caught up on the characters as their lives, but I really enjoyed it. It was fast and mysterious and really dark. I highly recommend!

Twists and turns all throughout the book. Wondered if the mystery was ever going to be solved.
