I did not really care for this sequel. There wasn't great character development for Adrian and Isolde. Both became insufferable by mid book, and the ending was rather abrupt. 3 stars for good spicy scenes, though.
boooring!! anyways, they fork more in this book than the first. literally every other page. and they fight so often? with no resolution at all other than forking
I feel like most of this book was a abusive relationship between Adrian and Isolde, perhaps because Adrian is not really in love with Isolde, rather still in love with Yesenia, and is mad when Isolde is not Yesenia (despite some of the narration making them one person) and also mad when he cannot control her.
I also think that Adrian really did not support his wife in her becoming Queen, and while Isolde feels like an impulsive and questionable leader, I think part of that comes from a feeling that she must lead immediately. Like she has no political instincts or survival instinct (sure she’s trying to gain loyalty by fighting for her subjects, but that doesn’t mean much if she’s dead ). Given that she was always sole heir of Lara and expected to take the throne, I don’t understand why she has no leadership training/knowledge.
I do think the most interesting part of this book was the discussion of gender/power dynamics and what role there is in revenge versus healing. I don’t know that I entirely disagree with it has been just men that have hurt Isolde, so she should fight back and commit violence against them even if this is supposed to come from the villain. I discovered after looking it up that this is not the last book in the series (makes sense given the cliffhanger), but leaving the story unfinished I think allows for a lot of interesting questions ie: Should Adrian die? What right (not authority) do the King and Queen have to murder enemies? Where is the line between revenge and healing?
This book felt like a completely different story. The characters were all flat and boring and there were many plot holes. I loved the first book but this sequel was an absolute disappointment.
The entire story was Isolde and Adrian fighting, having hate but also make up sex? her getting hurt, him healing her, then the cycle repeats.
Fights and fuxking that was this entire book.
There were way to many plot convinces and the characters somehow got less developed?
I won’t spoil with details but Adrian’s own POV is very conflicting with his actions towards his hometown (you’ll know the chapter when once you read it)

The first book in this series was good. Bingeable, even, with quality smut! This book however was laboriously turgid. I feel like i actively lost brain cells every time i turned a page. I laughed at parts that weren’t supposed to be funny, i cringed at parts that were supposed to be sad. The book itself made absolutely no sense. The worldbuilding nonexistent which left me both confused and angry that I paid $8 for this.
There was so much opportunity here but there are more plotholes than spicy scenes (and my god, there were a lot of those - when you do too much of something it becomes boring. I didn’t think vampire smut could be boring.
The main characters were so unlikeable and the worst part is they were clearly meant to be a couple to be rooted for. He was toxic: ‘she is mine to hurt to bleed to fuck’ ABSOLUTELY NOTTTTT. and she was so fucking indecisive and frankly i feel she needed the most basic of concepts explained to her with crayon. Her personality was non existent.
I fell asleep while the audiobook was playing. I missed 11% of the book. Yet when i woke up I completely understood what was going on because despite all of the running down secret hallways and perfectly human people shifting into dogs (not even a plot hole, a SINK hole) literally nothing happens in this book.
I spent 7 days trying to get through this and reading it was the worst part of my day.
I want monetary compensation for emotional damage,
Two stars because Adrian… takes care… of Isolde first in bed and as a gay that’s better to read about that verity-esque BJs.
DONE. I am done.
