Honestly, the MFC was insufferable to the point of frustration and the MMC was only interested in sex. The plot was mid and I wasn’t a fan of how the MMC and MFC constantly fought and then would have make-up sex to make up for their toxic relationship. DNF.

I'm SO mad I have to wait another year for the next book! I gotta know what's happening next!
I don’t think I enjoyed the second book as much as the first, but I find that every time with a series the second book is never as good as the first because it’s just more or less all set up for the end of the series. It did have some really cool moments though near the beginning, and kept being interesting until the last 50 or so pages when you could tell that it would be left on a massive cliff hanger.
This one was a lot more to take in mentally too because it felt like every character had backstory occur in this book, a lot of it that wasn’t too necessary either, or only relevant so that it could explain a characters choice later on.
Some of the twists were really good and I didn’t see coming, but my god Isolde is annoying as fuck most of the time. There seems to be so much emotional back and forth for no reason with her character, it just annoys the shit out of me. Not to mention how much of a push over Adrian can be, like for no reason.
Hopefully in the next book things will progress a lot better and we will finally learn more about the goddesses and magic itself, instead of the battles and hating on men constantly

Ugh. From the first page, I knew this book would be bad. The whole thing read like a first draft, where only typos were edited out. There are so many ideas, very little mystery, and predictable. MC wanted to potentially find a hidden chamber of lost witch tomes? Oh, don't worry, another character randomly knew where it was the whole time. MC wants to become the alpha of some monstrous beast pack? It doesn't matter she barely trained, she defeat the alpha with no problem. A problem was announced, and instantly, an easy fix solved it in the next chapter or two. There were pointless scenes. The romance is terrible. Isolde's conversations with Adrian never have any substance. She gets angry (sometimes about something that she doesn't need to get angry about), they fight, and they have sex. There were no meaningful conversations between them at all, even if they're supposed to be madly in love with each other. Only gave it 2 stars because I actually finished the book and didn't DNF it. I won't be continuing on.

Again nothing much happens in this book, despite it being compelling to read like eating an entire bag of chips. Which means I think I'll have to pass on any further instalments in this series, especially if my library doesn't get audiobook copies.
But I'll especially pass if the ending in the bonus chapter comes to fruition. I want a beautiful tragedy, not an insipid happy ever after where Isolde is a 'good' queen and not a tyrant to those she rules. I want these characters to continue to have teeth once they've gotten what they want.
There's also a much more interesting version of this book left unwritten, and much better aligned to my YA fantasy plot sensitivities, where Because as much as I like feminism, it is frustrating it didn't happen until two of the female characters spoke to Isolde and revealed another part of her history. It does feel a bit like that was a bit too much plot or would have sped up the series a bit too quickly so that the earlier path wasn't taken, but it makes things a bit more boring.
