This is a much darker story than the Disneyfied version. Peter and Tinker Bell are both big jerks. Peter is a greedy, vicious dictator of the Lost Boys. Tinker Bell is vindictive and jealous towards Wendy, going so far as to try to kill her. The Indians are portrayed in a fairly racist manner, and the pirates are stereotyped villains. The plot is not very focused or consistant. Nevertheless, it's a brisk read that is reasonably engaging.
Vera Kate’s review: “I love Wendy and I love her daughters and I love Peter Pan because he always wants to rescue Wendy. And I love all the pirates and I love Captain Hook and I love how Peter Pan is always into a fight. and I love Nana and Mrs. Darling and I also love Wendy’s heart and the pirates and I love how the lost boys became pirates. They figured out how to be pirates. And I love Michael and John and I love when they meet Peter Pan and they learn how to fly and also I really really really love Peter and Wendy and I really love when at the end they went to the Neverland with Jane.”

Christ, that book is sexist. And RACIST. And SEXIST If Harry Potter is banned in some places, I'm surprised this book hasn't been burned, for crying out loud. Although I really did enjoy most of it. But honestly.

Okay listen: I'm counting this as being finished even though I didn't read Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. I just can't be bothered currently lol.
I'm very hit or miss on reading classic books so rating is more like 3.5 stars? I've always wanted to read Peter Pan, especially because I'm a huge Captain Hook fan in general. So I'm really glad I picked this up when I did. And I'd like to read the prequel eventually! Just not right now.

Mrs Darling told Peter Wendy could go back for a week every year - to do spring cleaning. What?!
Peter is such an exquisite character and some times mean. But he is a child, isn't he? Such a fantastic little adventure.
