This book definitely had a stronger plot than the first one, and the first few chapters didn’t slog on so it was easier to get hooked. I liked the idea of the Crown, even if character development wasn’t at the forefront so much this time.

The little character development this time around was entirely for Sun, and I’m not complaining since I love him. I liked the references to Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, like his cousin being Tanzang.

The thing keeping this book from five stars was that there were some weird out of character moments?
Like when Fox and Yatsuhashi dangled Neptune over water despite it literally being his worst fear and their excuse is that they’re in a bad mood. That felt weird. It was a brief moment, but almost made me put the book down for the day because of how uncharacteristically mean it was

But the humour this time around was better. More of the jokes landed for me instead of making me think the writer was trying too hard to be comedic.

Now if only the actual show could improve like this.
