This was a fun bedtime story read if a bit tedious in its repetitive material. Often the stories would resemble each other structurally and narratively, and many of the tales had quite non sequitur endings. And in general, I could do without the Judeo-Christian overtones.
Interesting. Many of the tales are familiar, but have very different and often gruesome endings.
The tales of the Brothers Grimm, which they collected mostly from women, young women (Wilhelm married one) are, well, famous. They also went though much editing and revising. The tales got a little holier, more German, and, sometimes, more bloody.
This edition is pretty good; it is standard but affordable. The major tales are here and in the established order.

I'd give it a weak 3/5 stars? Or perhaps a strong 2/5.
It's very interesting to see how modern fairy tales began, and how aspects of certain tales were borrowed from others. However, the repetition of the stories does start to grate on you. "Oh look, a tailor/farmer found a princess, and did an odd thing, and is now a prince, and also those people who wronged them have now died very violently."
On the whole I did enjoy reading (most of) it, but you can definitely see how the stories would be better orally, and spaced out, instead of read one after another. I could also have done without the ... veeery blatant racism.
