it was interesting to read about the different fairytales that have been modernized (or Disney-fied) today! strangely, there were a lot of limbs chopped off, cannibals, sentient sausages, and many, many more odd tidbits. of course, it wouldn't be Brothers Grimm fairy tales without evil women and, conversely, men with the personality of a wet piece of cardboard.

I loved having discussions in my German Fairy Tales class about the functions of the stories and the maybe not so slay things in them; like how it turns out the Brother Grimm slowly took out the credits from women who contributed to the telling of some of the stories. hubba hubba!! get a load of those guys am I right???

anyway, I know this was mostly negative but honestly I ATE THESE UP. like yes, maybe maidens getting swooped up by princes and becoming mothers is problematic but IDC. they are the blueprint for Mother. these maidens walked so mothers now could run (and also feed into my hopeless romantic delusions <3)

Es interesante conocer las versiones originales de los cuentos clásicos. Me han llamado especialmente la atención Cenicienta y el Sastrecillo Valiente.

Some good stuff in here for occasional perusal and consideration. Also some completely bonkers stuff that I can’t make heads or tails of.

Absolutely love how they have the real view of all the Disney fairytales, definitely not a book to read to kids but great or young adults and adults!!

I was super excited to read this one, but it wasn’t as good as I expected. The stories were either repeats of a different one, with different characters etc or just stupid. I’m not sure if my book was different because I got it for free off of the Apple Bookstore, but the version I read didn’t have any of the popular fairytales in it. Cinderella, Snow White, etc. I was looking forward to reading some grotesque fairytales but I guess I’ll just have to keep looking!
