 A nice easy-read romp but the plot felt convoluted at times. That faster paced ending worked well. Unusual for the male lead to be more interesting than the MC but I think it's true in this case! I was on the fence as to whether to read the next one, but I'm a sucker for a cliffhanger so I guess it has to be done !

I feel torn because this was well done but I didn't particularly like it. I've never been into period pieces with their strict rules and corsets and the way teenagers are considered adults. I get that much of the context of this book is the looting of historical artifacts from Egyptian tombs by rich foreigners and yet it bothers me that all the main characters are rich white foreigners. It's set in Egypt but not about Egypt. There were a lot of plot twists for the mystery in the second half and I didn't like them.

This is one of my favorite books of the year and, considering it's two weeks out from NYE and the very long list of books I've read this year, that is saying something.

This book draws you in quickly and holds you fast the entire story. My only complaint is now I have to almost a year for the conclusion.

The Mummy meets Death on the Nile, indeed. Lots of what I love: ancient Egyptian magic, a rivals-to-lovers romance, and a dangerous race. YA pacing and characterization but that doesn’t bother me one bit!

The cliffhanger was an actual attack on me as a person.
