This book has mystery, intrigue, relationship building, and is just beautifully written. While it is a historical fantasy the author has inserted bits of truth from the time period as well. Her knowledge of history and various culture shows in the immaculate details of the story. Every time I would settle in with this book it took my imagination to places I have forever longed to go, and created an adventure that I was excited to partake in. The ending took a twist that left my jaw on the floor. I CANNOT wait for the next book!

Loved the magic system in this book. Objects from the past that have been infused with magic still retain their magic and can be felt or used by other people - sometimes. That is the simple explanation. I would like to have had more of that involved in the story. I was caught up in the characters and events from the first chapter. Definite surprises in this one. Wish it were longer and fleshed out more.
