The anxiety of having crushes, not having crushes, and all the other complications of 6th grade social dynamics comes to the front of this now series. I enjoyed how the world was expanded upon and the new characters introduced are great! I'm excited to see where things go in the promised next installment.
Walter (the mom's) boyfriend is thankfully less toxic in this story and we get to see the Dad in the city (with hints to his own romance??). Though I can't help but cringe at the forced heteronormativity when there is pleasant vague representation of a gay relationship in the neighbors that own the pumpkin patch. The book shows how damaging it can be to force a heteronormative view on a child that hasn't experienced a crush at all.
I love a fall pumpkin patch story but as sweet at it was to see our "sisters" getting along, I was feeling sympathy anxiety for the loneliness Jen was feeling. The art style is still pitch perfect and the hand drawn doodles are charming :)

Expressive illustrations and a simple story that resonates. A sweet fall farm setting that made me want to jump into the book all the more.

A solid sequel that has me excited to read the next chapter in this series. This would work well for anyone who didn't read the first book, but has great follow through on the growing relationships that returning readers will appreciate.
I really love this series. This is a good one to read for autumnal/fall vibes, as it involves a pumpkin patch farm and haunted hayrides. I wish it had delved a little bit more into Jen’s disinterest in romance—like how she feels about it and maybe why—but overall still really great.
I cried twice reading this. A very important book for people who weren't (or perhaps aren't) interested in romance and have to put up with it constantly around them. The art is so fun, the characters are fleshed out, and Jen is such a forgiving and mature protagonist. Just a super wholesome read.
3.75 Stars. Enjoyable seasonal read with some great characters and wonderful fall setting. I did read the second book first (oops!) , but look forward to going back to the beginning to see where the story began.
