The attention to detail in the world building is so immersive and has brought me back to this book again and again over the years. Always fun to reread.

It was a good book. However, after I learned that the author disclosed the name of the geisha he has talked to during his research, it made me feel weird towards him.

The prose in Memoirs of a Geisha is so vivid, I can clearly imagine snow on the rooftops of Kyoto, more than twenty years after I finished the last page. It’s a very character-driven novel, but it holds a special place in my heart as the first novel to really give me a feel for “sense-of-place.” Just gorgeous—a forever favorite! (Memoirs of a Geisha also led me to Sei Shōnagon’s wonderful Pillow Book.)

I really enjoyed this book. The metaphors and similies got a bit repetitive, which was annoying, but besides that I couldn't put this down.
