I loved this book! It was everything I wanted in a rom-com-style novel. The twist at the ending was exactly was I was hoping for (which is odd to say because it is awful). The world-building was enticing and the characters were lovable. This is well-written.

This was okay, just not memorable at all. I also felt the ending was extremely abrupt and rushed.

Fun and quick read. Discussed serious topics while still remaining positive. Ending felt a little bit rushed but overall enjoyed

This book was fine, I was just expecting more from it. It felt as if there was way to many open endings left. I needed more from the ending and I needed more from the story. Just felt as if something was missing to really make this book stand out.

I really wanted to love this book as much as I love the cover design.
And for the most part I liked the premise of Birds of California. The Hollywood vibes, the interesting side characters and the romcom set-up, but it was missing key pieces to tie it all together.
The lack of character development for both the main characters, Fiona and Sam, frustrated me, and at times, I found them both to be really unlikable. I even stopped rooting for them, as I just wasn’t invested in either of their stories with no growth or development in sight.
It also didn’t help that there was zero resolution at the end of the book. None. Nothing. Major life issues were happening in both the main character’s lives, but nothing was really addressed or discussed, no epilogue to let us know how events unfolded, it all just ended, unresolved. It made me wonder why certain issues were even brought into the plot if there was never going to be a resolution for it in the end. I was left with more questions than answers.

3.5 stars. I thought the relationship aspect of this book totally fell flat and I honestly wasn't rooting for the characters to be together at all. The part that was most interesting to me was the acting bits and the different sides of Hollywood, however the big overarching theme was just hinted at and then was only briefly addressed at the end. This book wasn't terrible but I thought it could've been better and I expected more from it.
