I don't know how to rate this, but it wasn't a bad book!!! it was really good, but I came into this book not expecting something as good and that just made some things stand out in a bad way.

(this section might have spoilers)

like, for example, bailey's age was SO evident in this. not in the sense of "yes, she's young" but in the "yes, she's naive", "yes, anyone could take advantage of her" and beau literally mentioning all the time that she's younger was not cool. I like age gap romances but I don't like the ones that make age difference so apparent that you literally can't think "oh they're on the same level mentally" because in here they almost never are.

bailey is amazing, beau is amazing, and I do think they are great together because of the things that they do bring out in each other. but if age is so apparent to you and such a big deal, then maybe try working out your own psych.

also, the way beau was like "she's a virgin, I can't take advantage of her like that" was so??? we're in the 21° century. being a virgin is not that huge of a flex. if it's consensual and pleasurable, it doesn't matter who it is with, but it's even better if it's with someone truthful that cares about her. he made a big deal out of something that she was like "oh, sex? sounds fun. want to do it".

and the way bailey acted during the third act conflict- not it. I understood her point of not wanting to be so dependent on him, but I think it was a bit out of proportion. not the time apart necessarily because it serves him right having to be away for her after not telling her something, but the way she acted as if the bar was any less her place when he told her that he was a silent owner.

I enjoyed the book, ok? elsie can master anything in my books and I can't wait to read more from her after this amazing series. but I just feel like even though I enjoyed the characters, the actual characters had their feeling and backstories way on the back. powerless and reckless had their fair share of talk about trauma and the reasons they acted the way they did, but this one was so deep into the "we're fake fiancees, life sucks and I think this person deserves better" and mostly that. idk man I love them, but my expectations were low and they didn't get that much better while reading
