The only reason it’s not a higher rating is because I decided to read it while sitting in an office, not Camus’ fault I’m well aware I will definitely have to reread in the future to better understand certain aspects. But overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it, impeccable writing and thoughtful conversations
It took me longer than I expected to read this one. I believe in order to really grasp a book like this, you must be free of distractions.

به خودم گفتم خودشه! سقوط یکی از بهترین مثالهاست برای توضیح اینکه من دقیقاً از ادبیات چی میخوام!
نمونه بارزی از یک شاهکار ادبی که تا روزها ذهنتو درگیر خودش کنه. خوندن عقاید افراد صاحب‌نظر و مقایسش با تفکرات روزمره خودت. امان از ژان باپتیست که با دوگانگیش تونست چندین وجه از شخصیت خوانندش رو قلقلک بده!
سقوط یک سر و گردن از بقیه کارهای کامو بالاتر بود و برای من، بهترین کارش بود. قطع به یقین چندوقت دیگه برای بازخوانی میرم سراغش.
به رسم این چند وقت؛ با اینکه انتخاب بسیار سخته:
—در کل، مهم این است که بتوانیم غضب‌مان را سر کسی خالی کنیم، بی‌آن که او حق داشته باشد جواب‌مان را بدهد. شنیده‌اید می‌گویند «آدم روی حرف پدرش حرف نمیزند؟» از یک جنبه، غریب جلوه می‌کند. در این دنیا، به چه کسی جواب می‌دهیم جز کسی که دوستش داریم؟ از جنبه‌ای دیگر، متقاعدکننده است. بالاخره باید یک نفر باشد که حرف آخر را بزند. وگرنه، در رد هر استدلال می‌شود استدلال دیگری آورد: قضیه تمامی ندارد! قدرت، برعکس، تکلیف را یکسره می‌کند. خیلی طول کشید، اما بالاخره این مطلب دستگیرمان شد. مثلاً، لابد متوجه شده‌اید که اروپای کهن خودمان سرانجام آموخته که به شیوه‌ی صحیح فلسفه ببافد. دیگر، مانند دوران ساده‌دلی، نمی‌گوییم «نظرم این است، کجایش ایراد دارد؟» به روشن بینی رسیده ایم. اطلاعیه را جایگزین مناظره کرده‌ایم. می‌گوییم «حقیقت این است. مختارید درباره‌اش بحث کنید، برای‌مان اهمیتی ندارد. اما چند سال دیگر، پلیس به شما می‌فهماند حق با ماست.»

It is well written, I just couldn't read 150 pages of narcissism, so I abandoned it at page 24.
The first Camus I have read. And what a great audio performance by Edoardo Ballerini. Very good audio book!
Somehow I felt a little distant from Jean-Baptiste Clamence's terrible religious/juridical obsession with the goodness/purity/strength/beauty of his own self/his own body. I did not feel judged, I was not captured by the royal 'we'. Maybe because I did not grow up in a strong religious tradition, specifically a French Catholic tradition; maybe I am too cynical; maybe I need to read it again. But I loved how Jean-Baptiste is engaged in such an imaginative, morally curious, learned dialog with himself about his lies, his cruelties, his smugness, his immense narcissism. I will be reading much more Camus.
And the quality of the writing and translation make me want to purchase an actual book. Poetry is always easier to remember when I read it.
