It's hard not to love Polly, and eventually grow to love Nate as well. I felt like as they grew to understand each other, I grew to love them both more and more. Polly's development reminds me of my own development and how I went from being very shy to having to burst open that bubble when I started my first job. I couldn't put this book down.

This was very well written, but I didn't like the story line nor all the violence.
Nate has gotten out of prison, but he is the target of a gang that is after him for a murder in prison. The gang targets his ex-wife and 11 year old daughter, Polly. Nate wants to protect them, and takes Polly with him to save her. Polly becomes involved in the robberies and murder spree that Nate takes to try and call off the hit.
Very graphic, lots of drugs, violence, corruption.

Good book, but hard to read.  I had to take several breaks while reading.  I'm glad I read it, but once was enough.

Think of the most evil bad guy you can create (white supremacist in double-secure isolation prison lockdown), and the most-innocent of protagonists (11-year old girl, murdered mother, father just out of jail, and best-friend a stuffed bear she puppets her emotions through), and you see where this begins. It's a thrill-ride in which the girl discovers she's more like her father than anyone could have imagined. Throw in the kind-hearted detective, the over-her-head in evil love interest, and this thing flies by.
