I am unsure of who this book was intended for. I doubt those who think climate change isn't real or happening at a rapid pace would decide to pick up a book about the consequences of climate change. Those who already know about the implications of climate change I doubt need to be told in hyperbole and end of the world tone to understand the gravity of the issue.
This book takes the scenic route to explain concepts or get points across. The writing made it difficult to understand what points he was trying to make as he wrote in circles about a concept that doesn't need 20 pages to explain. The tone of the whole book was hopeless and dramatic. Now I understand why he wrote this way to get across the implications of where we are headed but at some point the reader can get desensitize or overwhelmed by the continuous barrage of terrible things that are. I think having a section about potential solutions that are to be in place or things we have done could leave the reader feeling motivative and somewhat hopeful. His mention that individual change is not significant made me a bit angry because often times when people start to change their habits and way of living, which is hard to get people to do in the first place, can spread to others and over time can become the new way of living a more sustainable life. Changing one's habits often can inspire change and or motivate someone to do more.
I think there are better books out there that communicate the urgency of change but in a way that provides solutions and practical action that can be taken with ones self.

I have an headache from reading this book. So much stuff to learn and unpack. Really went close to a couple of panic attacks while reading it. Thoughts and prayers.

This book goes into depth about all the ways the climate will get so much worse.
There is a lot of information, but it made me so anxious, as someone who is prone to anxiety and the state of the world already makes me very nervous. Probably not a good choice to read for me.

I feel scared about the scale of destruction and suffering that awaits.
This is an incredibly sobering collection of facts that also offers a glimmer of hope. It’s written so well, from a craft perspective, that you can almost forget how horrifying the words actually are. Almost. Mandatory reading for those interested in climate change and the future of earth. (And there are tons sources in the notes, for those who want the raw science!)
