The story doesn't miss a beat as it dives right into the moments immediately after the ending of book one, and things take a more serious turn, in tone and in the story itself. Emma, her brother, and a mysterious man known only as Shadow cross a bleak, dark, barren landscape towards the World of Light while being chased by the Shade of a god. The journey forces the siblings to depend on each other while facing their own personal challenges, both internal and external, until the book ends on a dramatic and somewhat melancholy note. Gone is the whimsy and innocence of book one as secrets are revealed and we see that an immense task awaits the brave little girl, and I for one cannot wait to see what challenges she faces next.

I was given this book by voracious read to review.

I read this straight after book one in the series and found it far more enjoyable. Really enjoyed reading this and felt it was designed more for the young adult market.

Great follow on story, which picks up where the first book finished. Loved the fact that the story is set on a different world and didn't work out the ending, which is always a nice surprise.
