The artwork in this book is fantastic. The writing is lyrical and the illustrations are detailed and extrememly interesting. Definitely one to read together with a child.

I worry somewhat that I didn't spot the deliberate mistake on my first reading of this lovely little story told in 13 rhyming couplets. The art by Gris Grimly really brings it to life!

I am a fan of both author & illustrator. Not a children's picture book.

The dangerous alphabet, a darker twist on teaching a child the alphabet. It was interesting to say the least, but not a book I personally fancy or ever see myself using or suggesting the use of in the future.

I saw this book and had to read it. After all Neil Gaiman!

And I really truly enjoyed the book, it might not be the best book to be read on Christmas, with its gloomy and dark interior and story, but I am happy I read it.

The illustrations are wonderful and beautiful, it was really fun to see all the little details in the story. Also the A,B,Cs of Neil Gaiman is truly magnificent. I had a few laughs at a few and a few shivers at others.

So thank Neil Gaiman for making this book. :) And I would recommend this to everyone.

This is quite the wonderful little children's story and I love the illustrations.

This is a fantastic little children's book that... I'm not quite sure is for children. It's just a bit macabre ... in a way that only Neil Gaiman could write.

Definitely would be up to a parent as to whether their child is of the mindset to enjoy this or not. If they are the type to enjoy Doctor Who, and think getting a bit scared is fun... they might find this fun in a silly way.

I did. :)

And it's beautifully illustrated.

There's an illustration in here that explains to me the phrase "doe-eyed." (Even though one of the other reviewers informed me it's a gazelle.)

It's teetering between iconic and scary. Can definitely imagine a cult following. Are there sufficient cults for toddlers?

A piratical ghost story in thirteen ingenious but potentially disturbing rhyming couplets, originally conceived as a confection both to amuse and to entertain...

It's the illustrations in this treacherous tale that make this. Over and over again.
