one of my favorites as a child - inspired many a dreaming session and maybe why i studied anthropology?
I read this book way back when I was in 4th grade, it was a favorite, I checked it out of the school library many many times. I thought about it every once in awhile through out the years, never remembering the name of the book. I finally looked it up on Google and ordered it. I still like this book. I see there is a sequel to this book, The Gypsy Game, but the kids leave their imagination behind? Boo. That's why this book was good, to see how the kids made their Egyptian props and created their ceremonies.
Even decades later, this book still holds up wonderfully, and kids are still reading it!

I listened to this since I remember never finishing it when I was little. It wasn't bad but I didn't realize it was written in 1967 so some of it was a little dated.
This started out really fun. I liked the kids and how quirky April was at the beginning.
Unfortunately it got a little boring for me by the midway point. I was a little disappointed that ‘the strange things’ happening to the kids was at the end of the book and not very exciting lol.
I’m not even close to the target audience lol, so I think I would’ve enjoyed this more as a kid.
