I recently gave this one a reread and am happy to report that it's definitely stood the test of time. This is the tale of a diverse and imaginative group of friends who create their own Egypt and embark on a series of adventures that change them all. Fun for readers of all ages.

A ragtag group of children form a secret society, complete with an oracular statue, in an abandoned lot. To this day, I eye abandoned lots in the hopes of having my own Egypt Game.
I loved this book in my youth and I decided to give it a re-read as an adult. I knew some of the magic would be lost with age but I don't really know why I loved it as much as I did when I was younger. It really is rather drab and the Egypt parts are too few. I will thank it for the nostalgia and my love of all things Egyptian (I'm still an avid Egypt buff). It was nice to experience a piece of my childhood again but it will be blown away like the sands of Egypt...into history.

I'm not certain how historically or politically accurate this book was, but I remember enjoying it in 3rd grade, so there's something.
