There's something so Berkeley about this book, which is neither a good thing nor a bad thing, just funny for anyone who's spent any time there and reads this as an adult. I probably would have liked this more as a kid when I would have been intrigued by the game, but I thought it was a fun book nonetheless.
slow-paced
I have read this book many times, though I don't actually remember when any of them were. I remember loving it. I'm pretty sure it influenced my Halloween costumes in the past. Beyond that, though, I didn't remember much about it, so I was a bit anxious about my re-read. However, the book aged better than I had feared, and was still quite enjoyable. It does have a slower pacing to it than a lot of the modern MG books I've read, but that's not a problem.
Moderate: Child death
