My kids have been telling me for a couple of years to read this book and I'm glad I did; wish I had read it when I was a kid as I would have liked it even more then. Wonderful

I might be biased, since this was one of my favorite books as a kid, but it was great on rereading. When I was a kid I was pretty snobbish about only ever reading books with real magic in them, but The Egypt Game slipped past my defenses even though the magic is all imaginary and I reread it many times as a child. I was glad to reread it now, as an adult.

I liked it a lot! Cute story, and captures very well the magic of what it’s like to play make-believe as an imaginative kid.
First time I’ve read a Zilpha K. Snyder book; sorta sad I didn’t read anything by her before now, or as a kid myself, but I plan on reading more of her books soon!

Read this in fifth grade. This was the book that introduced me to my love of reading, that showed me that through words, I could be transported to a magical place in my imagination. It taught me the power of my imagination, not just through reading but through using it. The kids in this book create Egypt in a small empty lot near their home and escape there. The book taught me to use my imagination to escape.

I loved this book when I was younger and was pleasantly surprised how this still holds up since reading it in middle school. However, the background story about a child's murder is unsettling and taken a bit too lightly.

I couldn't put it down! This book brought me back to my own childhood when we used to play similar games.

One of my absolute faves when I was a kid, and so I had to have a copy for Frannie to find when she's older. I did a reread to see if it holds up and emphatically yes!

It wasn't the book I expected. It was much better.

I can’t remember who recommended this delightful book to me, but I owe whoever it was! What a treat to read this one. Full of adventure, imagination, a little danger, and mystery, this was the perfect fall read for me.
