Offered a great alternative plot to Hachet!!

I think this was almost as good as Hatchet. There was a whole new set of challenges Brian had to face. It was very educational, while being entertaining.

i think my 5th grade teacher had this and id already read hatchet a few times before
this is the only other book of the series ive read
again, idk lol

This is a “what-if” story set-up a sequel to Hatchet. In Hatchet Brain is a young man who survives a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness. He has to learn to live off the land with a hatchet being his only tool. At the end of the book he is rescued during the beginning of autumn. In Brian’s Winter, the writer revisits the setting of Hatchet and asks, “What if he hadn’t been rescued? What if Brian had to figure out a way to survive the harsh Northern winter?” Very good book, if you liked Hatchet, Sign of the Beaver or My Side of the Mountain (all of which I highly recommend) you’ll probably like Brian’s Winter.

2019 Popsugar - Read a book during the season it is set in

So, I've never read Hatchet and I wonder if I would have felt differently about this book if I had, but I just found this to be boring and totally unbelievable. Two stars may be too generous.

I'm a sucker for a survival story, and I've always loved these books since I read them in middle school (elementary school?).

This was a fast fun read. If you liked Hatchet, this is pretty much more of the same.

The book was written as a response to Brian's conveniently timed rescue in Hatchet, which was a complaint of mine as well.

I read this for a book report
