I have consumed so many adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes story it feels strange that this is the first original Doyle story I have read. I was astounded by Doyle’s masterful prose and the unexpected humor of his delivery. Fantastic! Will be reading more.

What the fuck was that change in the middle of the book? I'm so accustomed to Agatha Christie's books that I wanted to solve the mystery, or honestly to be explained it. But no we're sent to a completely different continent.

The audiobook is read masterfully by Greg wagland

Diving in to the Sherlock Holmes novels. Enjoying the murder mystery and getting the background of Holmes and Watson.

As a big fan of BBC's Sherlock Holmes, I wanted to give the original literature a try.

At first glance, it did not disappoint! The writing, a bit difficult for me as it's a tad outdated and I'm not a native English speaker, was nonetheless very well done. The narrative flowed easily and we got to see the famous meeting of Watson and Holmes. The case itself was good, though it took a little while to get into it. There was a big narrative switch about halfway through and though it merged at the end, it did make me put the book down for a bit. I loved BBC's Sherlock because of the banter between Sherlock and Watson and Sherlock's deduction more than the cases themselves, so when the book devoted a larger chunk to the characters from the case I got a bit bored here and there.

Overall, I still love the world of Sherlock Holmes and I'll give this a 3.5 rounded up.
