September is an intern with the Institute trying to find a cure for the half-life. The half - life is a seizure that occurs exactly half way through your life, so you know your exact death day. This is mostly a teenage romance novel when September falls for Flint, who will die in a few weeks. A cute book that addresses loss, feeling emotions rather than suppressing them, and healing.

Thankyou to Scholastic for sending me an advance copy of this in exchange for an honest review ✨

When this book came with tissues, why did I trick myself into thinking I might not need them? Heartbreaking and yet heartwarming at the same time

“I don’t know that grieving always means crying.”

Flint has 41 days, 9 hours and 42 minutes left to live. He’s known since he was eight years old when his death day would be when his half-life seizure occurred. Now he and his parents have moved back to his hometown to live out the last of his days there, keeping anything enjoyable out of his life so that death will seem like a relief. When Flint meets September, everything changes. Shes dealing with a grief of her own, but in a way that no one knows. She keeps a happy face on while working towards finding a cure for the half-life at the institute she works at. Flint can’t seem to tell September he’s dying and she won’t share she’s already experienced a death day of her own.

Why aren't more people talking about this novel?! Perfection. This YA book by @brianna_bourne_writes was everything I wanted and more. Fans of They Both Die at the End and Five Feet Apart will devour this one just as I did. Bring tissues—I bawled most of the novel!

CW: grief, death, depression, hospitalization, child death

É uma bela mas deprimente história de amor com dias contados. Eu honestamente prefiro não saber o dia em que vou morrer.

A story about an alternate reality where everyone seizes once in their life. The seizure marks their halfway point, and the countdown begins to their deathday. Except that Flint "half-lifed" at 8 years old, and now has 11 weeks left to live. He asks his now divorced parents to bring him back to the small town where he was raised -- where he's determined to live as little and as miserably as possible so it won't hurt as much for him to leave or for others to miss him.

Until he meets September, a brilliant student scientist interning at the Half-Life Institute; the hotbed of half-life research determined to find a cure.

What I loved most about this book is that, despite all the talk of death, it centers around life - and that it's always worth living and fighting for. It parallels real life terminal illness in such a surprisingly bright and beautiful way, and can help us attain a new perspective in how we choose to really, really live moving forward. It is more on the YA side, but I absolutely flew right through this.

Easily a 5-star read! This is probably the best contemporary YA book I’ve ever read. ❤️ My new favourite book!
