I got 17 pages in. Horrible and hackneyed. The dialogue was just awful, the internal monologue sounded like no teenager I've ever heard in my life. What a hatchet job.
On the surface this book is the story of two dying teenagers who fall in love.
To me this book is so much more than that. This book explores mortality, the human condition and fate.
I used to feel sorry for those who died and i feared death. But i have since realised that “ you should not pity the dead, you should pity the living and above all those who live without love”. To quote albus dumbledore.
In the book hazel expresses that the only thing worse than dying from cancer at 17 is having a kid that dies of cancer at seventeen. I completely and utterly agree with this. The people who die are not the ones affected by their death but it is those who are left behind, those who have to live in a world where the person who they love no longer exists. That is a greater tragedy than death itself.
Death is not something to be afraid of, but a brand new adventure and a chance at a second life. None of us quite know what death has in store for us, it is one of life biggest unanswered questions and it will always stay that way.
This book is amazing and so is john green.

Audiobook. Loved this. It’s emotionally difficult but worth the listen.
